Raymond is a servant-leader and nationally-recognized education strategist with nearly two decades of experience working across the education ecosystem—as a principal, nonprofit leader, curriculum designer, and policy advocate.

During the course of his career, he has served as the Chief Talent Officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Founding Executive Director for City Teaching Alliance, and a founding principal at two schools in Philadelphia. This rich background gives him a unique perspective on understanding each sector’s role in creating lasting change, along with the challenges and opportunities before them.

His work has centered on dismantling systemic barriers to leadership, deepening community-rooted talent pipelines, and improving outcomes for historically marginalized learners.
Some of his breakthrough initiatives:

Developed identity-anchored, ethnic studies curriculum for Pittsburgh Public Schools focused on civic engagement, collective identity, and resistance, supporting students in seeing their cultural experiences reflected in academic spaces.

Served as an executive coach for Teach For America Greater Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders, and various charter management organizations, supporting emerging leaders in meeting performance benchmarks tied to retention, instructional leadership and culturally responsive practices.

Led Pennsylvania’s first K–12 Career and Technical Education (CTE) program of study for general education as chair of the Committee for Education Talent Recruitment.

Advocated for and helped pass landmark legislation allowing non-U.S. citizens, including DACA recipients, to become certified teachers in Pennsylvania.

Authored and released the first statewide Educator Workforce Annual Report, elevating transparency and driving equity-forward data conversations in education policy.

Maryam Abdelhamid

Consultant

Maryam Abdelhamid is a Partner at School Design Services, where she supports schools and communities reimagine education to better serve all children. She specializes in strategic planning and developing and facilitating professional development for teachers and school teams rooted in student data and responsive to the needs of diverse learners.

Maryam began her journey in education as a Teach For America corps member in Philadelphia. She was a founding teacher at a middle school and later served as an Assistant Principal of Instruction before transitioning into higher education. She previously served as a Professor and Instructional Coach at American University's School of Education, supporting early-stage urban educators.

In addition to her work in school design and teacher development, Maryam contributes to a nature education program in her home state of New Jersey. She is also a proud mom to her four-year-old daughter, Leilani, who inspires her unwavering commitment to creating learning environments where all children can flourish and thrive.

Sterling Grimes

Consultant

Sterling Grimes co-leads the Black Men Educators Network, a national innovation hub supporting coalitional efforts for Black men in education. In this role he leads strategy and operations to strengthen alignment between local efforts and the research, practice, and policy efforts impacting Black men educators around the country.

Sterling began his career as a middle and high school English teacher in Philadelphia. After eight years in the classroom, Sterling entered the startup space to serve as Chief Program Officer for The Fellowship BMEC Inc., a national effort supporting the recruitment, retention, and development of Black men and men of color in education.

In 2020, Sterling launched an independent venture to gain experience in new educational contexts. His work has included project management and consultancy for ed nonprofits, school districts, and IHEs; new teacher and mentor teacher professional learning; and workforce exposure programming with high school and undergraduate student populations.
